En quelques mots, un parcours musical…

Né en 2002, Nicolas Kilhoffer commence l’étude du piano dès l’âge de sept ans à Saverne en Alsace, sa ville natale. Débutant l’apprentissage de l’orgue en autodidacte et accompagnant la liturgie dès l’âge de dix ans, il rencontre Rémy Kalck, auprès duquel il se forme pendant cinq ans avant d’intégrer, en 2017, la classe d’orgue de Daniel Maurer au Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Strasbourg. Il y obtient en 2024 son Diplôme d’Études Musicales à l’unanimité avec les félicitations du jury.

Parallèlement à son cursus d’orgue et d’improvisation, il poursuit au conservatoire l’étude du piano auprès d’Elyette Weil ainsi que celle de l’harmonie avec Gaël Lozac’h. Tout en menant des études supérieures à Nantes, Nicolas Kilhoffer complète sa formation au conservatoire de cette même ville dans la classe de piano de Victoria Kamyshinets. Il participe également à des master classes auprès de Vincent Dubois, Thierry Escaich (Notre-Dame de Paris) et Thomas Ospital (Saint-Eustache). Depuis la rentrée 2025, il étudie au Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris dans la classe d’orgue de Christophe Mantoux, et bénéficie également des conseils de Johann Vexo (Notre-Dame et cathédrale de Nancy) et Philippe Lefebvre (Notre-Dame) en improvisation.

Il se produit régulièrement en France et à l’étranger, notamment en Autriche, Belgique, au Canada, en Espagne, aux États-Unis, en Grèce, en Italie, au Kenya, au Portugal et au Royaume-Uni, lors de récitals où l’improvisation occupe une place importante. Il a également eu l’occasion de découvrir de nombreux instruments lors de stages récents en Australie et en Nouvelle-Calédonie. Nicolas Kilhoffer a par ailleurs enseigné l’improvisation à Nairobi, au Kenya, lors d’une master class réunissant de nombreux organistes venus d’Afrique de l’Est. Plus récemment, il a enseigné à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique, dans le cadre d’un semestre d’échange.

À la rentrée prochaine, Nicolas Kilhoffer poursuivra ses études en master à Yale University, aux États-Unis, dans la classe de James O’Donnell, organiste émérite de Westminster Abbey à Londres.

In a few words, a musical path…

Born in 2002 in Saverne, eastern France, Nicolas Kilhoffer began studying piano at the age of seven before teaching himself the organ and serving as a church organist from the age of ten. He later studied organ performance and improvisation in Strasbourg with Daniel Maurer and Johann Vexo, who remains his principal teacher, and continued his training in Paris with Christophe Mantoux. He has also participated in masterclasses with Philippe Lefebvre, Vincent Dubois, Thierry Escaich, and Thomas Ospital.

Nicolas Kilhoffer regularly performs in recital in France and abroad, with appearances in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Greece, Italy, Kenya, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Recent engagements have included performances at Grace Church in New York, Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria (British Columbia), Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Athens, and All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi. He also regularly performs with the Trio du Levant, an ensemble for oboe, violin, and organ, touring throughout France, Belgium, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Alongside his concert career, improvisation stands at the heart of Nicolas Kilhoffer’s musical activity. He is actively involved in teaching and the transmission of improvisation, and in 2023 led intensive workshops for organists and cathedral musicians in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2024, he also gave improvisation lessons to students in Victoria, British Columbia, during an exchange semester. During travels in Australia and New Caledonia, he had the opportunity to discover and play a wide variety of instruments, developing a particular interest in the diversity of organ traditions and liturgical practices throughout the world.

Beginning in Fall 2026, he will pursue a Master of Music degree at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, studying with James O’Donnell, Organist Emeritus of Westminster Abbey, London.
